Artificial Intelligence, Consciousness, and Humanity. They decide to send other, more primitive robots to try and see what is wrong with Speedy. The fact that Donovan and Powell do not understand what is wrong with Speedy shows their lack of control in the situation. The fact that the more primitive robots are the ones sent to troubleshoot the advanced robot suggests that, in some cases, technological advancement can be more troublesome than it is beneficial.
Human Superiority and Control. The way in which these more primitive robots have been programmed hints at the fear and irrationality of the humans at the time they created these robots.
Donovan and Powell ride the robots out onto the surface of Mercury, staying within the shadows and trying to avoid the sun. They find Speedy , still circling the selenium pool and lurching from side to side, and they try to call to him.
Morality in I, Robot is purely a matter of acting correctly—and not at all a matter of thinking, feeling, or believing correctly. So it doesn't matter what you think as long as you act correctly. The moral of the story is that not always technology can be controlled by us, especially when you give them a lot of autonomy in decisions, you always have to be careful to avoid technology revolution.
I, Robot is a fixup novel of science fiction short stories or essays by American writer Isaac Asimov. The book also contains the short story in which Asimov's Three Laws of Robotics first appear, which had large influence on later science fiction and had impact on thought on ethics of artificial intelligence as well. Asimov was a non-smoker his whole life.
His first wife, Gertrude, was a smoker, and naturally he knew a lot of other smokers among his friends, but he himself never took a puff. His father had been pretty strict about things like that.
Worth the read? My first Asimov book was an omnibus with the first three Foundation books, and I try to re- read them once every 1 or 2 years. I really like the short story structure of the first few books, makes it a good read if you are busy with life.
Asimov penned many works that are now considered classics, including "I, Robot" and the "Foundation" series Isaac Asimov. Isaac Asimov suggested reading order: I, Robot. The Caves of Steel. The Naked Sun. The Robots of Dawn. Robots and Empire. The Stars, Like Dust. The Currents of Space. Pebble in the Sky.
Asimov was a 20th century Renaissance man. He wrote books about Shakespeare, the Bible, American history, world history, the history of math, the history of chemistry and books on various branches of mathematics and science, including many books on astronomy.
I suggest starting with The Caves of Steel , which is a really well-written murder mystery as well as a sci-fi portrayal of the future. Then, if you want more about robots, the I, Robot stories. What happened to the talking robot in Robbie? How was Nestor 10 found? Who was Nestor 10?
